Bio/Research

Eliz Sanasarian is a professor of political science at the University of Southern California. Dr. Sanasarian has been awarded the President's Circle faculty award for outstanding merit in the areas of teaching, research, and service, and the Department's 1997-1998 Award for Outstanding Classroom Teaching and Dedication to Students. She has been a visiting scholar at the Harvard University's Center for Middle Eastern Studies and has served in different capacities at the American Political Science Association, Western Political Science Association International, Society for Iranian Studies, Society for Armenian Studies, and Middle East Studies Association. Professor Sanasarian joined the USC faculty in 1985.

She is the author of Religious Minorities in Iran (Cambridge University Press, 2000) and The Women's Rights Movement in Iran: Mutiny, Appeasement, and Repression from 1900 to Khomeini (Praeger, 1982). Her publications have appeared in edited volumes and places such as Holocaust and Genocide Studies Journal, Oxford Encyclopedia of the Modern Islamic World, Natural Resources Journal, Diaspora, and Journal of Developing Societies.
