Bio/Research

Elizabeth Ewan is a Scottish historian who works on gender, crime and urban history in the medieval and early modern period up to 1600. Her research includes work on Scottish women's history from the medieval to modern periods. She is also interested in modern Scottish events, culture and politics.

Ewan's current research includes:

The New Biographical Dictionary of Scottish Women (to be published in 2018), containing biographies of over 1000 women.

An examination of gender and crime in Scotland 1450-1600.

A study of masculinities in medieval and early modern Scotland. I am an active member of the Guelph Centre for Scottish Studies.
