Dr. Black earned a BEd from Aberdeen University (Scotland), an MLIS from Dalhousie University and a PhD in information science from Loughborough University (England). She is currently Director of the School of Information Management. From 2000 to 2006 she was co-editor of the bilingual project for a History of the Book in Canada / L’histoire du livre et de l’imprimé au Canada funded by a Major Collaborative Research Initiative grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC). In 2006 she was awarded a new three-year grant from SSHRC for her study “Investigating Complexity in Information Studies: The Example of Print Culture and Geographic Information Systems.” Her contribution to the information professions was recognized in 2006 when she became only the third Canadian to be awarded an Honorary Fellowship in the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (UK).
