I received my B.A. at McGill and my M.A. and Ph.D. at the University of Rochester. I have been on the faculty at Queen's since 1972. I also was a visiting scholar at the University of British Columbia (1977-78, 1986), Stanford (1979-80), the Australian National University (1987), the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (1994 and 2004). My research has been in the area of Economic History, focusing mainly but not exclusively on Canada. In recent years Ann Carlos and I have been working on the fur trade of the Hudson Bay Region where our focus has been the aboriginal role.
