Gilles Grenier has been a faculty member at the department of economics of the University of Ottawa since 1981 and a full professor since 1995. He was twice the chair of that department, from 1985 to 1989 and from 1998 to 2002. He received degrees in economics from Université Laval (bachelor), University of Ottawa (M.A.) and Princeton University (Ph.D.). His main field of specialization is empirical labour economics. He is the author of many scientific publications that relate wages to various labour market characteristics, such as language, immigrant status and industry. The journals in which he published include Canadian Journal of Economics, Canadian Public Policy, L'Actualité économique, Journal of Human Resources, Social Science Quarterly, Global Economy Journal and Journal of Political Economy.
