Bio/Research

Trained as a GP in England, Gina is an assistant professor in the Department of Family Medicine and she works as a family physician at the McMaster Family Practice (MFP) and trains residents. Her research experience started in the UK where she was a fellow with the Imperial College of Medicine and developed and worked on the National Survey of Diabetes Care for the British Diabetes Association.

She has been the recipient of many research grants, held research fellowships with the CIHR and CDA and has completed a PhD in Epidemiology at McMaster University, for which she was awarded the FHS Graduate Program Outstanding Thesis Award.

She describes herself as a Primary Care Epidemiologist. She is the Quality Assurance/Chart Audit Coordinator, Residency Research Coordinator and Research in Residency Committee Chair for the Residency Program as well as a tutor for QA at MFP.

Her main research program involves the assessment for risk of pre-diabetes and diabetes in the community, use of screening tools to assess for risk for diabetes, prevention and management of diabetes in primary care using the inter-professional team approach and the quality of diabetes care in the community. Other reseach interests are care of victims of domestic violence in Family Practice, Continuity of Care and the Doctor-Patient Relationship.
