Gordon Betcherman is Professor in the School of International Development and Global Studies. He also has a cross-appointment in the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs. His research interests are in labour economics, demography, social policy, and emerging and transition economies. He has published widely both internationally and in Canada. Recent publications include co-authoring the 2013 World Development Report on Jobs and a study of employment in South Asia. Dr. Betcherman joined the University of Ottawa in 2009 after 11 years at the World Bank in Washington where he most recently was Sector Manager and Lead Economist in the Human Development Sector, Europe and Central Asia Region. Prior to joining the World Bank, Dr. Betcherman held senior positions at the Canadian Policy Research Networks, Ekos Research Associates, and the Economic Council of Canada. He has also been a Visiting Fellow at the School of Policy Studies at Queen's University. He holds a PhD from the University of California at Los Angeles.
