Dr. Taylor is the academic co-director of U of G’s new Centre for Advancing Responsible and Ethical Artificial Intelligence (CARE-AI), which aims to ensure that AI technologies benefit people and minimize harm. The centre is dedicated to influencing AI public policy and regulations.

Taylor also leads the Machine Learning Research Group at U of G. He is the academic director of NextAI, non-profit initiative to establish Canada as the AI hub for research, venture creation and technology commercialization and the Research Director for the Vector Institute for Artificial Intelligence.
He was selected by the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR) as one of two Azrieli Global Scholars appointed to the Learning in Machines and Brains Program: an international competition recognizing excellence in research and leadership. He is an internationally-recognized expert on Deep Learning, receiving research funding from industry and government, including Amazon, Google and Huawei and a highly competitive NSERC-French National Research Agency Strategic Partnerships Grant.
