Dr. Hanlon studies a wide range of behaviour and culture in Europe -- especially Southwest Euope (Italy, France) -- from the 16th to 18th century. This study entails everything from religion, witchcraft and magic, to daily life, social relations and deviance, embracing the bulk of the population. He has also lived in France and Italy and taught at Berkeley and the Sorbonne.
