Wright is an esteemed architectural historian who specializes in late 19th- and 20th-century urban culture, public spaces, and housing in the United States and in other regions of the world. She has penned several books that explore the cultural tensions of architectural experiments, including The Politics of Design in French Colonial Urbanism; Building the Dream: A Social History of Housing in America; and Moralism and the Model Home: Domestic Architecture and Cultural Conflict in Chicago, 1873-1973. In addition, Wright has appeared as a co-host on PBS’ acclaimed series “History Detectives.”
