Bio/Research

General area of interest is the analytical organic chemistry of natural (e.g. mediators, hormones) and anthropogenic (e.g. drugs, environmental contaminants) organic compounds in biomedical and environmental samples. The second area of interest is the application of these methods to the study of physiological, pathophysiological and toxicological processes.

Specific topic under investigation includes the reaction mechanism and application of solid supported reaction in the development of high sensitivity methods of analysis. The application focuses on prostaglandins, essential fatty acids, bacterial fatty acids and markers of oxidative stress.

The methods include high pressure liquid chromatography and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. High resolution columns and high sensitivity detectors are used with all these instruments.
