Jacob Turner, Assistant Professor of Communication, received his PhD in Communication from Bowling Green State University in 2009. Dr. Turner teaches classes in a variety of areas within communication but his courses often focus on mass communication, visual communication and intercultural communication. Dr. Turner’s scholarly work typically examines representations of race, gender and culture in media messages; he has published quantitative content analyses that look at race and gender portrayals in a variety of media from MTV to ESPN and the New York Times print edition. Dr. Turner enjoys scouring the internet for new music and when he’s not stuck behind a computer, he likes playing softball or just hanging out with his wife, Sara, their baby girl, Ruby and their Boston Terrier, Moxie.
