James Archibald joined the Centre's teaching staff on a full-time basis in 1985. Since then, he has taught courses in management, business communication and translation studies assuming most recently the directorship of the Department of Translation Studies. He also serves as the Centre's Disciplinary Officer. In addition to these duties, he directs the testing centre for the DELF/DALF certifications in French at McGill University. Archibald has also had the opportunity to teach in other institutions as an invited professor or research associate: Centre de recherche des écoles de Coëtquidan Saint-Cyr (CREC) (2004-2007), Dipartimento di Lingue e culture contemporanee, Università degli Studi di Milano (2008), and Centre des langues et de traduction, Université libanaise (2009). Archibald was a member of the official Canadian delegation to the World Summit on the Information Society.
In 2003, Archibald was made a Chevalier in the Ordre des Palmes Académiques, and in 2008 he received the Francis W. Weeks Award of Merit from the Association for Business Communication in recognition of his contribution to the profession. He currently serves as the ABC Vice President for Canada and as a member of the Office des professions du Québec.
His most recent books are Langue et localisation : Politiques, stratégies et pratiques (2009), Langue(s) et immigration(s) : société, école, travail (2009)]. His recent articles focus on language policy on the WEB, language and social cohesion and political and cultural diversity. Archibald has worked closely with ABC Europe on projects in Denmark, Italy, Norway, and Turkey. These have led to several cooperative publishing projects: Discourse, Ideology and Specialized Communication (BERN: Peter Lang, 2007), Multimodality in Corporate Communication, Web genres and discursive identity (MILAN: Edizioni FrancoAngeli, 2007), and Communication: Spanning Cultures, Change and Challenges (Istanbul: Yeditepe University Press, 2008).
