Janet Sonenberg's Master of Fine Arts is in directing from NYU’s School of the Arts and she has taught at Princeton University and Hampshire College. Her booksThe Actor Speaks and Dreamwork for Actors focus on the acting process. In the latter she describes a new acting technique in which actors avail themselves of direct access to their autonomous imaginations. Along with other faculty members in Theater Arts, Professor Sonenberg develops work with students that is eventually produced in the professional world. Most recently, she commissioned a play between MIT and the Royal Shakespeare Company of the UK, on which her students served as dramaturgs and creators. Professor Sonenberg teaches classes in acting and directing, and directs student productions.
