Bio/Research

This program mainly aims at developing new varieties of peach, plum, and nectarine to meet the Ontario fruit industry needs. Apart from continuing traditional breeding that is in place for a long time at Vineland Station, my program also will incorporate recent advances in genomics to complement fruit breeding. We are also investigating the genetic resistance to major diseases such as black knot and brown rot in tender fruits. Further we study the post-harvest enhancement of shelf life these fruits using hexanal in collaboration with other scientists.
