Bio/Research

Prof. Hughes' practice and research focus on ways of high-risk for child abuse. She also studies ways of enhancing health (particularly mental health) in hard-to-reach (adolescent) and disadvantaged (poor women) populations. In terms of nursing issues, Jean is part of an interdisciplinary team examining health human resource matters. Her teaching and community work focus on the field of mental health. Prof. Hughes has considerable experience with non-government organizations in advocating reform for mental health policy. She is currently a member of the Board of Directors for the Canadian Mental Health Association-National Office, and a past president for CMHA- Nova Scotia.
