We are studying the effects of fetal tracheal occlusion in animal models of congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH). CDH affects about 1 in 4,500 births and causes death from pulmonary hypoplasia (underdevelopment of the lungs) in 25% of cases when it is detected before birth. Blockage of the trachea before birth may allow enough lung development for survival.
