She also researches on transitional periods during childhood and adolescence, focusing on school, family and biological transitions. The author of hundreds of papers, she is the first director of the National Center for Children and Families at Teachers College and has directed the Adolescent Study Program at Teachers College and the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University.
