Bio/Research

Dr. Hutchings is an expert in matters relating to the general biology, ecology and evolution of fishes. His research focuses primarily upon the life history and behavior of Atlantic salmon, brook trout, and Atlantic cod. Recently, his research on Atlantic cod has focussed upon the reasons for the collapse of the fishery off Atlantic Canada. From a behavioral perspective, Dr. Hutchings has been studying fish movement and migration of brook trout, and the spawning behavior of Atlantic cod. Dr. Hutchings's research also addresses genetic aspects of fishes, particularly as they relate to population differentiation.
