Bio/Research
Jeffrey Stout joined the Princeton University Department of Religion in 1975. He is also a Faculty Associate in the Department of Politics. He is the author of The Flight from Authority, Ethics after Babel, and Democracy and Tradition, as well as co-editor of Grammar and Grace: Reformulations of Aquinas and Wittgenstein. His new book is entitled Blessed Are the Organized: Grassroots Democracy in America. In 2010 he was awarded Princeton's President's Award for Distinguished Teaching. His Stone Lectures, which were delivered at Princeton Theological Seminary in 2007, are also on their way to becoming a book. Stout's interests include theories of religion, religious and philosophical ethics, philosophy of religion, social criticism, political thought, modern theology, and film. He is a contributing editor of the Journal of Religious Ethics. He served as president of the American Academy of Religion in 2007.
