I am interested in physical activity, sedentary behavior, and related health outcomes. My primary research interest involves developing and evaluating theoretically framed strategies in which to promote physical activity behavior across the cancer trajectory. We recently completed the ACTION trial, a randomized controlled trial evaluating the effects of print resources and step pedometers on physical activity and quality of life in breast cancer survivors. We are now accruing to the CIHR-funded PROACTIVE Trial, a randomized controlled trial evaluating the effects of the 'I Am Proactive' physical activity resources designed specifically for women receiving chemotherapy for breast cancer. Developing and evaluating strategies to facilitate physical activity is critical given our research showing substantial declines in physical activity across the cancer trajectory. My secondary lines of research involve exploring the associations between sedentary time (using accelerometer-determined estimates and population-based datasets) and psychosocial health outcomes, and exploring associations between physical activity, sedentary behavior, and psychosocial health among older adults.
