Bio/Research

Dr. Jennifer Bain, an Associate Professor in the Department of Music, specializes in theory and analysis, with an emphasis on the music of the Middle Ages.

Her research interests are wide-ranging, including the secular music of 14th-century poet and composer, Guillaume de Machaut, medieval music theory, the 19th- and 20th-century reception of medieval music, as well as issues surrounding the role of women in the production and composition of music. She is currently writing a book on the 19th-century revival of the music of medieval writer and composer, Hildegard of Bingen.
