Jennifer Skelly joined the School of Nursing in 1987 as a Clinical Lecturer. She is presently a tenured Associate Professor with the School and Assistant Dean of the Graduate Nursing Program. She has also been Director of the Continence Program at St. Joseph’s Centre for Ambulatory Health Services for the past 16 years where she maintains an active clinic practice two days a week. Jennifer established the Nurse Continence Advisor (NCA) distance education certificate program at McMaster in 1997 which prepares registered nurses for specialized independent continence practice. In 2008, she was selected by the Canadian Nurses Association to receive one of the top 100 awards given to nurses making a difference in nursing in the past 100 years. She has been involved in Best Practice Guidelines Project with the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario since its inception in 2000.
Jennifer has a Master of Health Science and a Master of Science from McMaster University, and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Toronto.
Jennifer's primary research interests are in urinary and fecal incontinence; women's health; goal attainment scaling; chronic illness; geriatrics; and the development and evaluation of best practice guidelines. Currently, she is the Principal Investigator on a funded research project to improve continence care in the community.
