My research interests emanate from the confluence of online education, science and technology education, and the scholarship of teaching. As an early adopter of computers in high school classrooms around 1980, I have been fascinated by their continuing impact on science education and other curriculum areas. These new technologies make for amazing educational possibilities such as the development of online teaching and learning communities unconstrained by time and space, new ways of conducting research online, and new methods for teaching students using video, animation, simulation and the like. However, these new technologies also bring with them legions of pedagogical problems from plagiarism to web-fueled misconceptions. One of these problems, Internet Safety, is a particular interest.
