Dr. John Helliwell, DPhil, is an internationally renowned economist and is the Co-director and Arthur J.E. Child Foundation Fellow of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research’s Social Interactions, Identity and Well-Being program.
Dr. Helliwell was educated and taught at Oxford, where he was a Rhodes Scholar, and at the University of British Columbia, where he is an Emeritus Professor of Economics. He is a member of the National Statistics Council, a Research Associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and an Officer of the Order of Canada. Dr. Helliwell has authored numerous books and articles focused on well-being and social capital, including research related to natural resources, energy and environmental issues.
