John Orr is Emeritus Professor of Religion. He received a PhD in Religion from Yale University in 1965 and joined the faculty of USC’s School of Religion in 1967. Orr served multiple terms as director of the School of Religion. Between 1981 and 1989, he served as dean of the USC Rossier School of Education. His research and administrative contributions were acknowledged by the university’s Center for Religion and Civic Culture, and, after his retirement in 1998, he led a sequence of research studies in the area of religion and public life. In recent years, he has received training as a documentary photographer, has completed four major projects in urban social landscape photography, and has exhibited his work at a number of Los Angeles venues. Orr has served as president of the Retired Faculty Association and continues to sit on the RFA board.
