John W. Patty is a formal political theorist whose research focuses on political institutions and democratic theory. He is currently co-editor of Journal of Theoretical Politics, as well as serving on the editorial boards of Journal of Politics, Political Analysis, Political Science Research and Methods, and Games. Professor Patty received his PhD is Social Sciences from the California Institute of Technology in 2001, his MS in Economics from the California Institute of Technology in 1999 and his BA in Economics and Mathematics from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in 1996. Prior to coming to the University of Chicago, he was an Assistant Professor of Political Economy & Decision Sciences at Carnegie Mellon, Assistant Professor of Government at Harvard University, and Professor of Political Science at Washington University in St. Louis.
