Dr. John Silvester, an authority on high-speed computer networks, is currently Professor of Electrical Engineering and Special Advisor on High-Speed Networking to the CIO at USC. He is very active in advanced networking initiatives at the State, National, and International levels. He was Chair of the Board of the Corporation for Educational Network Initiatives in California (CENIC) from 2000-2006, was on the Board of NLR and the Internet2 National Planning and Policy Advisory Committee.
Silvester joined the USC faculty as an assistant professor of electrical engineering/systems in 1979, became an associate professor in 1985, full professor in 1994, served as Vice-Provost of Academic Computing at USC from 1994-97, Vice-Provost of Scholarly Technology from 1997-2005 and was Head of the James Irvine Center for Scholarly Technology from 1997-2006.
Dr. Silvester is the author of more than 100 journal and conference papers and has lectured both in the United States and abroad. He is a member of the Association for Computer Machinery (ACM) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers.
