Jon Miller's areas of expertise are in early modern and ancient, especially early modern rationalism and Hellenistic. His primary research project consists in the comparison of various aspects of early modern philosophy to Hellenistic. As part of this project, he is currently finalizing a manuscript relating normative elements of Spinoza's system to the Stoics. He is the author of a number of articles, chapters in edited volumes and encyclopedia entries. In addition, he is the co-editor (with Brad Inwood) of Hellenistic and Early Modern Philosophy (Cambridge, 2003) and the editor of Topics in Early Modern Philosophy of Mind (forthcoming from Kluwer). Besides his work in history, he maintains interests in most areas of philosophy, especially African philosophy and political philosophy.
