Dr. Ackerman’s current research involves the physical ecology of unionid bivalves (which belong to the family of freshwater mussels), their early life history and conservation, and understanding the mechanics of nutrient uptake in aquatic plants.

Bio/Research

Dr. Ackerman’s current research involves the physical ecology of unionid bivalves (which belong to the family of freshwater mussels), their early life history and conservation, and understanding the mechanics of nutrient uptake in aquatic plants.

Ackerman received an MA from SUNY Stony Brook and completed his PhD at Cornell University. He was a postdoctoral researcher in mechanical engineering at the University of Toronto and was a founding faculty member and Canada Research Chair in Physical Ecology and Aquatic Science at the University of Northern British Columbia.

Ackerman is the editor of "Limnology & Oceanography: Fluids and Environments"; the associate editor of "Aquatic Sciences", and a former associate editor of "Limnology and Oceanography".
