I have concentrated on improving our understanding of how rocks acquire and retain stable magnetization. This is then applied to help improve the reliability of paleomagnetic studies - including my own which have dealt mostly with the Newfoundland Appalachians and the history of the Iapetus Ocean. The paleomagnetic studies have often benefited from the collaboration of U-Pb geogronologists in our department.
