Jules Blais is Assistant Professor of Biology at the University of Ottawa. His work focuses on identifying the consequences of anthropogenic stressors on natural systems. The main emphasis is on the sources, pathways and fate of persistent pollutants such as organochlorine pesticides, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and trace metals in aquatic environments. He is looking at the potential for ecosystems in cold climates to retain and biomagnify semi-volatile organochlorine compounds like PCBs and pesticides. Methods include a combination of field analysis and modeling approaches, and encompass a range of biological and chemical limnology, land-water interactions, biogeochemical cycles, and water quality issues.
