Bio/Research

I received my PhD in developmental psychology from Wilfrid Laurier University in 2009. I completed my BEd with primary/junior qualification from the University of Western Ontario in 1990, following completion of a BA in Psychology with a minor in Physical Education from Wilfrid Laurier University in 1987.

Since joining Laurier, I have taught courses in both graduate and undergraduate programs in both the Department of Psychology and the Faculty of Education. Prior to my graduate education, I taught for almost a decade as an elementary teacher for the Waterloo Region District School Board in Kindergarten to Grade 6.

-The main focus of my research is the integration of technology in teaching and learning. My teaching and research combine to investigate the integration of technology, pedagogy and content (TPACK) under a 21st century learning framework.

- I have investigated the use of mobile technologies in classrooms, resulting in a guide for teachers for using iPads in the elementary classroom and publications related to postsecondary use of smartphones.

- More recently I have collaborated with a community organization, Run For Life, to investigate the use of aerobic activity through exercise bikes to support learning.

- I am currently measuring the assessment of computational thinking and problem-solving across disciplines in a digital age.
