Bio/Research

Karen Guillemin is an academic expert in microbiology, cell and developmental biology and host-microbe systems. At the University of Oregon, she is a professor of biology in the Institute of Molecular Biology. She is founding director of the Microbial Ecology and Theory of Animals (META) Center for Systems Biology, an NIH-funded National Center for Systems Biology. The center is devoted to studying how host-microbe systems assemble, function and evolve. Karen pioneered the use of zebrafish to study host-microbe interactions, including the influence of the gut microbiome on development, metabolism, and immunity.
