Karen E. Hayden, Ph.D., Associate Professor & Chair, Department of Criminology, joined the faculty at Merrimack College in 1997 and earned tenure and promotion to Associate Professor in 2001. She served as the chairperson of the Department of Sociology & Criminology before moving on to Chair the Department of Criminology.
Dr. Hayden’s areas of interest within criminology include girls, women, and crime; rural crime; law and society; and cultural criminology. Her work has appeared in Studies in Symbolic Interaction, Teaching Sociology and she wrote two chapters in the forthcoming edited volume, Against Urbanormativity: Perspectives on Rural Theory (Lexington Books/Rowan & Littlefield Publishers, Inc).
