Dr. Kobayashi is a social gerontologist who uses a life course perspective to explore the intersection of social structural, historical, cultural, and individual factors affecting the aging process. She believes that in order to develop a better understanding of the nexus between micro- and macro-levels of analysis in sociological theory, a mixed-method - qualitative and quantitative - approach to research is needed. Her current research program focuses on the linkages between ethnicity, gender, class, and health in mid-to later-life Canadians.
