For more than three decades, Jackson has taught the history of New York City. An esteemed expert in American social and urban history, Jackson is a prolific writer and commentator; among his best-known works is Crabgrass Frontier: The Suburbanization of the United States. He has many affiliations, including the New York Historical Society (home to New York City’s oldest museum), where he is a board member and former president.
