Bio/Research

Kevin M. Plunkett Associate Professor English Ph.D., specializes in 19th century American literature, modern American writers of color, New England poetry, and film studies. “For three decades at Merrimack, I have prided myself on exploring new subject matter and approaches, introducing thirteen new courses into the English curriculum. Yet in everything I teach, both literature and film, I am drawn to the most self-reflexive of artists, and art forms that blur the boundaries between writers and readers, divergent mediums and cultures.”

Professor Plunkett will be on sabbatical leave the 2014-2015 academic year, conducting research at film archives and museums throughout Europe, leading to a new course in World Cinema. “These are innovative times in the English Department as we integrate more film courses into the curriculum, with the intent of establishing in the future a film concentration within the major. I am proud to be involved in this process and will be writing several papers of the impact of European filmmakers on Hollywood, integrating this material into my courses.” Courses: Literature and Film Comics into Film Hollywood’s America American Romanticism Trans-Atlantic Romanticism American-Indian Renaissance Poe, Hawthorne and the American Short Story Poets of New England American Women Writers of Color
