Bio/Research
Dr. Allik has received music composition degrees from University of Toronto (B.Mus.), Princeton University (M.F.A) and University of Southern California (D.M.A.). Her composition teachers included John Weinzweig, Oskar Morawetz, Lothar Klein, Gustav Ciamaga, James Hopkins, Frederick Leseman, and Milton Babbitt. She has received numerous grants and awards from the Canada Council, Ontario Arts Council, SSHRC, and the Chalmers Foundation. She has also received honorable mentions from Ars Electronica And Bourge International Music competitions for her compositions. Her works have been performed in Canada, United States, Europe and South America. Kristi Allik's main areas of specialization are electroacoustic composition, integrated media, multi-media and music technology. Currently she is Associate Professor of Music at Queen's University, where she is also the Director of the Electronic Music studios and the Computer Laboratory of Music Applications. Her areas of teaching include electroacoustic music, computer music applications, multi-media, general composition and (occasionally) jazz studies.
