Bio/Research

Lisa Schulkind’s primary research interests include health economics and the economics of education. Her current research focuses on fertility and infant health. In a recent paper, she examines the link between mothers’ health and that of their infants, taking advantage of policy variation provided by Title IX. Another paper examines the potential health consequences of manipulating the timing of births through scheduling cesarean sections. A third paper analyzes how the timing of childbearing affects the mothers’ future economic outcomes.

Professor Schulkind is thrilled to be at a liberal arts college, where she can take advantage of small class sizes to share her passion for using economic tools to analyze relevant questions in the world around her. She loves sharing her research with students, and encouraging them to pursue their own research interests.
