Bio/Research

Professor Di Cintio, has been educated in Canada, United States, and Europe in the fields of Interior Design, Architecture, and Philosophy. She is the founder of The Design Activism = Change Initiative.

Her overarching research theme is Design Activism. Di Cintio notes that Design Activism is a commingling of critical theory and political philosophy, and a conscious blend of aesthetics and ethics. Within this emerging field, her research and theoretical work focuses on two primary areas: designers who take on socio-political positions in their practice, and new voices and non-expert knowledge.

Di Cintio creates unique pedagogical links within the fields of design activism, service and experiential learning and social innovation. She has nurtured her research and teaching locally in the city of Toronto, within a First Nation reserve community in Ontario, and globally in China, Mexico, Australia, South Africa, Guatemala and India.

She has received grants from Canada Council for the Arts and has exhibited her creative work internationally. The Drawing Centre in New York, the Detroit Institute of Arts, Unconscious House: Erasing Domesticity at Curtin University, Australia and Allentown Art Museum of the Lehigh Valley, Past Present: Conversations across time.
