Bio/Research

Dr Louise LEMYRE, Ph.D. is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences of the Royal Society of Canada, and the McLaughlin Research Chair on Psychosocial Aspects of Risk and Health at the Institute of Population Health of the University of Ottawa, where she leads a research unit on psychosocial analysis of health 'GAP-Santé'. She obtained her Master's degree from the University of British Columbia (UBC) and her doctorate at Université Laval in Social Psychology. She then went for an interdisciplinary postdoctorate in social epidemiology and medical sociology at the British MRC Social Research Unit at the University of London, UK. Her consistently funded work involves developing unique qualitative and quantitative methodologies for the triangulation between subjective appraisal and contextual evaluation of social environment, especially with respect to stress, risk, adaptation and organizational learning, in either health or work settings. Her interdisciplinary projects involve the major determinants of population health and their interaction, especially as they relate to Sense of Mastery, Uncertainty and Threat. The psychosocial aspects of terrorism, emergency preparedness and psychosocial management of risks are at the core of her applied research program. Mother of four, she is also very active in the community.
