Dr. Ashbourne is a couple and family therapist whose research interests are focused on the co-construction of meaning within family relationships, particularly those between parents and adolescents. She has engaged in qualitative research projects with both immigrant and non-immigrant Canadian families, investigating the experience of mothers, fathers, and adolescent sons and daughters in day-to-day interactions such as negotiating time together/apart and intergenerational storytelling. Her most recent research has focused on the impact of migration from conflict zones on family relationships, and she has co-authored a book on culturally integrative community service responses for families from collectivist cultures.
