Bio/Research

Dr. Madeline J Bruce is a clinical psychological scientist. She earned her PhD in Clinical Psychology from Saint Louis University and completed her residency and a postdoctoral research fellowship at the Trauma and Resilience Center of UTHealth Houston, where she remains a consultant and licensed clinical psychologist. She is an assistant professor and Principal Investigator of the Social Contexts of Trauma Studies (SCOTS) lab at Webster University. Her current research program includes enhancing evidence-based psychotherapy, institutional betrayal and courage in medicine and the military, and how PTSD presents in special populations. Her early work on trigger warnings was some of the first to subject the controversial topic to empirical scrutiny. She is an editorial board member of Psychological Trauma: Theory, Research, Practice, and Policy, and her work has been featured in outlets such as The Wall Street Journal, The New Yorker, and others. She is deeply committed to mentorship, evidence-based treatments for trauma-related sequalae, and public engagement in institutional courage, survivor advocacy, and mental health education.
