In the fall of 1996, she spent four months as artist in residence in the Printmaking/Book Arts program of the University of the Arts and this period marks the beginning of her investigation into the book arts. She has a particular passion for making photogravure prints and as a result of this research, she and David Morrish have published the book Copper Plate Photogravure: Demystifying the Process in 2003 (Focal Press). Marlene MacCallum was elected to the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts in 2006.
