Bio/Research

Martin Bouchard is an assistant professor in the School of Criminology, Simon Fraser University. He obtained his PhD from University of Montreal in 2006. His research interests include the organisation and dynamics of illegal markets, social capital theory, social networks, methodologies to estimate the size of illegal populations, criminal careers, organized crime, and terrorism. He has edited two books, and is the author of numerous articles in peer reviewed journals, including Justice Quarterly, Journal of Research in Crime and Delinquency, Journal of Criminal Justice, Journal of Quantitative Criminology.

Current funded projects include: Monitoring the development of online child exploitation networks (SSHRC Insight grant), The Canadian Research Network on Terrorism, Security, and Society (SSHRC Partnership Development grant), The International Cannabis Cultivation Project, and Situational factors associated with initial opportunities to use illegal drugs for adolescents (Steel Endowment Fund).

Dr. Bouchard is organizing the Fourth Annual Illicit Networks Workshop.
