Mary Cox is an Assistant Professor of Journalism at Webster University. She serves as advisor to the student staff at The Galaxy, Webster University's radio station. She served two terms as chairman of the Publications Board, which oversees the publication of The Journal, Webster University's nationally award-winning student newspaper and website. She was chosen as a member of the inaugural 2012 Global Leadership Academy.
In the professional arena, she serves the journalism industry as a consultant to newspapers, TV, and radio newsrooms across North America. Her seminars help working journalists improve their digital and social media skills, storytelling, enterprise reporting and news marketing—all with an eye to the future of journalism.
Cox worked in television news for more than 20 years. Her positions ranged from reporter to producer to executive producer to news director in markets that include Phoenix, Atlanta, Minneapolis and St. Louis. Cox has won multiple journalism awards. They include Emmys,® Press Club Awards, Best of the West Awards, and Associated Press Awards. Cox received her bachelor’s degree from Lindenwood University and has an MS in Journalism and Mass Communication from Iowa State University.
