Bio/Research

Dr. Dobson received her D. Phil. as a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University in 1980. Following postdoctoral training and academic appointments at Oxford, the prestigious Cold Spring Harbor Laboratories in New York, Nottingham University, and York University, she came to Dalhousie in 1993 as an assistant professor. Since that time Melanie has admirably served within and beyond our Faculty of Medicine with unbounded enthusiasm and levels of integrity, compassion and responsibility that few--if any--of her colleagues can match. This includes long-standing service as an undergraduate co-op program coordinator and academic advisor, and as a valued member of departmental, Faculty, and University-level Committees too numerous to mention. Less tangible, though no less important, are Melanie's contributions as a mentor to younger faculty members and graduate students. She is famous for her demonstrated mastery of institutional regulations, policies and procedures, and is admired for her honesty and empathy.
