Bio/Research

Michael Corcoran, PhD, Assistant Professor, Department of Health Sciences, is an Assistant Professor of Health Sciences. He received his PhD in Nutritional Biochemistry and Metabolism with a concentration in Exercise Physiology from Tufts University in 2010. Following this, Dr. Corcoran served as a research associate at Tufts University, leading a community-led study that investigated the effects of a targeted exercise nutrition program on physical function, nutritional status, and health behavior in frail older adults. He also served as a co-investigator on a clinical trial examining the effectiveness of a post-exercise protein supplement on muscle function and power.

Dr. Corcoran is particularly interested in researching ways to promote physical activity and good nutritional habits in all segments of the population (from children to older adults). The courses he teaches include Nutrition, Diet, and Health and Clinical Research Design. Dr. Corcoran is currently an active member of the American Society of Nutrition and the American College of Sports Medicine. He is also an avid triathlete, competing in races ranging from 3-mile runs up to the Ironman distance (2.4 mile swim/112 mile bike/26.2 mile runs).
