Michael Kaloyanides, Ph.D., is the chair of the Division of Performing Arts and the Department of Music. He studies rural and urban music in Greece and Turkey, and has recorded albums of Greek and Turkish folk music for Lyrichord Records. He has served as a field evaluator for the National Endowment for the Arts, has published in the Journal of The Society for Ethnomusicology, and Essays in Arts and Sciences, and authored material for the New Grove Dictionary of Music in the United States. He has directed student research in traditional and popular music in more than 30 countries on five continents. He received his doctoral degree in ethnomusicology from Wesleyan University.
